Welcome to the website of The West Berkshire Centre for Homeopathic Medicine and Bowen Therapy, managed by Dr. Melanie Morgan-Jones.

What is Homeopathy and Bowen therapy? 'Going beyond the symptoms'. I treat each person individually. The symptoms that you can see are not always the ones that need treating. I also include advice on lifestyle changes, for example, those relating to posture and habits in order to maximize the potential of the therapeutic process.

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a safe and effective way of stimulating the body to heal itself. It recognizes that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of imbalance or disharmony within the whole person and that it is the patient who needs treatment and not the symptoms. This system of medicine was discovered by a German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, in 1796. He believed that if you treat ‘like with like’ then you could bring about an effective return to normal functioning in the patient. In conventional medicine, for example, insomnia is treated by way of opposites, i.e. that the patient is given a drug to bring on sleep artificially. Of course, this can also produce side effects. The homeopathic way is to give the patient minute doses of a substance which would produce the naturally occurring symptoms. If Homeopathic medicines are properly prescribed they are safe even for pregnant women, babies and children. You can take homeopathic medicine even if you are already using conventional drugs, but you would have to provide details of any drugs being taken.

Homeopathy can be useful in just about any condition at any time. Examples include: stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, childhood behavioural disorders, arthritis, asthma, back pain, menstrual problems, infertility, conditions in pregnancy, prostate problems, IBS, cystitis, migraines, sports injuries, psoriasis, eczema, and infections.

What is Bowen Therapy?

This is a gentle soft tissue remedial therapy (rather than a massage therapy), where the therapist uses the thumbs or fingers to make a series of precise, rolling movements over muscle or ligament. During the treatment the patient is left to rest so that the body is given time to make subtle and fine adjustments, which help to re-balance, relieve and reduce pain.

Bowen Therapy is suitable for most people, including pregnant women, children, newborn babies and the elderly. Conditions that it can address include: back and neck pain, sciatica, frozen shoulder, sports injuries, leg length differences, joint problems, acute and chronic fatigue, asthma, hay fever, IBS, strokes, whiplash, infant colic, PMT, and lymphoedema.
